Breaking away from the day to day grind, Alliance stepped away from the computers and took hold of a new way to design… with pumpkins!
Pumpkin carving has been a tradition done by many dating back as far as the 1500s. While the most common form of carving typical results in some form of the traditional jack-o-lantern, Alliance thought what better way to start the holiday season then having a friendly design competition charrette style!
5 teams of 3 where selected at random 24 hours before the start of the competition. At this time the teams were given a list of 9 possible themes in which they would have 1 hour to design, carve, and present to their judges… the partners!
On the day of the competition, our teams were faced with the themes of Architectural Apocalypse, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Star Wars, Pirates, and Disney. After tears were shed, and the bartering had ended, each team took to their designated area and began to take care of business. 15 architects with knives and pumpkins is a sight to behold! With gourds flying and the scent of spray adhesive and acrylic in the air, the teams set off to create what they believed to be the winning design.
At the end of the day, The Nightmare Before Christmas took gold. Barb, Scott, and Robert did an amazing job with their interpretation of Jack Skellington! Sugar and coffee creamer have never looked so sweet!
With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, what other traditions will Alliance put a new spin on? Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure, tinsel and turkey are sure to make an appearance!
